Book fair – Château des Milandes
From 23 to 25 June 2023, a book fair dedicated to the fight against racism will take place at the Château Des Milandes in Castelnaud-La-Chapelle, the former residence of Joséphine Baker.
This first book fair is organised by the LICRA.
Personalities are also announced such as the host Michel Drucker, the artist Francis Cabrel who will be the patron of the Friday youth day, but also political personalities such as the former president, François Hollande and the Minister of Education Pap Ndiaye. A member of the royal family of Monaco will also be present at the festival because Josephine Baker was very friendly with Princess Grace of Monaco and found refuge there when she was expelled from Les Milandes.
The general public will be able to meet some forty national and regional authors, and attend a dozen round tables devoted to Joséphine Baker, her struggles and her many commitments.
Joséphine Baker was the bearer of a message of peace and tolerance. It is this aspect of the complex character that Josephine Baker was (also a resistance fighter, dancer, singer, actress, activist and war medalist) that the International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism wishes to highlight through the first Josephine Baker book festival
Resistance fighter, fighter against racism, anti-Semitism and for the emancipation of blacks, Joséphine Baker has marked the history of the Périgord, but more widely the history of the world.
The Domaine Les Pastourels is less than 3 minutes from the Château Des Milandes, so you can stay at our campsite and enjoy the book fair
