Sarlat, capital of the Périgord Noir

Sarlat is a small town with a very rich architectural heritage. You can discover the many winding streets of this medieval town on your own or on a guided tour.
On Saturday mornings you can stroll through the large market in the narrow streets of the town and don’t forget to visit the covered market in the old church.

Our advice: Visit Sarlat at least once, if possible during the day, and stay in the evening where you will have free street entertainment every night in July and August. You can eat on the terrace (not for the food, but for the atmosphere!)

La Roque-Gageac

10 minutes from Les Pastourels campsite

This is an amazing village that was built in, and on, a cliff along the Dordogne. Classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, take a walk through the narrow streets that lead to the foot of the cliff. There is also a hike from La Rocque-Gageac.
Our little tip: Plan to visit in the morning as it is less crowded. It is the most visited village in France. If you can’t go canoeing, we recommend a trip in a Gabares (free for children in the morning), from which you can admire the many castles from the Dordogne, which gives a completely different view.

Les Eyzies, world capital of prehistory

30 minutes from the campsite Les Pastourels

The village of Les Eyzies de Tayac has a very special troglodyte architecture and is the world capital of prehistory.
You can visit the museum of prehistory, the Cro-Magnon shelter, the Font Gaume cave, the Roc de Cazelle caves and the Maison Forte de Reignac.
Our little tip: Look up to admire the cliffs and you will notice that the houses and the hotel have only 3 walls because the fourth is the cliff.

Belves and its troglodytic houses

Belvès is also one of the most beautiful and typical villages in France. In the heart of the village you will find its market place with its hall. Every Wednesday evening in July and August a gourmet market is held here.
Perched on its spur above the Nauze valley, in the Périgord Noir, the medieval city with 7 bell towers, which has not been spared by invasions and wars, has miraculously preserved magnificent traces of its built heritage.
Its name literally means “beautiful view”. You will have to climb to reach the village, which can be seen from the valley both by day and by night.

The tour of the troglodytic houses offered by the tourist office is very well done for children (and parents), short and well explained.

Domme

An ancient fortified village with a castle which has disappeared today but of which traces can still be seen.
The ramparts that surround the village and the various gates that allowed access are still largely present in an extraordinary state of preservation. The most impressive is undoubtedly the Gate of the Towers.
Our advice: On the esplanade of Domme you can have a panoramic view of the Dordogne valley. You can have an ice cream or a glass of wine from the Domme vineyards. There are many beautiful walks to do at the foot of the fortifications.

Le Bugue

Built on the slope of a hill, Le Bugue is a central city in the heart of the Périgord Noir with many tourist attractions, you will discover prestigious sites.
Like the Cloister of Cadouin, the park of Bournat, the aquarium of the Périgord Noir, the chasm of Proumeyssac.
